Old Devils Dream This tab represents an attempt to achieve the sound of Mike Compton, who played mandolin with the Nashville Bluegrass Band at the time they recorded the song Old Devils Dream in the 1980s, on the Idle Time LP I've chosen to kick off in the lowered 2nd position (first finger at the 3rd fret), which is a convenient way to play in F, but it is quite possible that Mike Compton was playing out of an F chop chord higher up the neck. Try the alternative opening bars and see what you think. For those who don't know this piece, I probably ought to point out that it is a vocal song and not connected in any way with the fiddle tune Devil's Dream. The break follows the verse of the song. Old Devils Dream is played at medium pace, about half note = 120. |
